Lavender Ladylike Nails

Hola!

There is always a soft spot in my heart for nail art. I can’t resist a pretty new manicure, especially with a nice pastel shade. Lavender has always been one of my favorite shades, so I thought it was time to bust out a gorgeous shade given to me by my friend Emily. She shared my love of nail polish, and this one reminds me of her. She passed away a few months ago, so I wanted to pay tribute to her.

Here is the pretty look that I created!

Lavender Nails

Lavender nails with rhinestones and faux pearls

Here is what I used to create this springtime nail look:

"Lily" by Revlon

“Lily” by Revlon

Rhinestones and Pearls

Rhinestones and Pearls from eBay

As mentioned above, my rhinestones and faux pearls were purchased from eBay. THe Revlon polish can be found at most drugstores, and I believe they still carry the same “Lily” shade.

I painted a coat of Sally Hansen “Hard as Nails” base coat, then did a coat of “Lily”, and waited for it to fully dry. Then I painted a coat of CND shellac top coat and applied the rhinestones and pearls. I put my nails under my shellac UV light for 3 minutes, then removed the sticky residue with alcohol. I LOVE my UV light, it makes my nails dry instantly.

What do you guys think of this look? Isn’t it cute!? I may be biased, but I thought it was adorable.

Til next time!

10 Favorite Beauty Hacks

Hello beautiful people!

I thought I would bring you a list of my favorite beauty hacks! These are tricks that I use when I am pressed for time, or I forget certain products at home. I made this visual list of tips to help illustrate my points! Make sure to read below the infographic for further explanation of the tips!

Image

Ok let’s break this down.

1) Scotch tape for creating a clean makeup look. I use this method to get that nice and crisp line for my eyeliner and eye shadow. Follow the shape of your lower lids to create the perfect dramatic line. This is my go-to trick for a night out with my friends.

2) Eyelid primer under concealer helps eliminate creasing under the eyes. Also, make sure that area is fully moisturized, this will also prevent creasing.

3) Use mascara as eyeliner when you have misplaced your regular gel liner. Simply dip an angled liner brush into your mascara tube and apply like you normally would with gel liner.

4) Use concealer as eyelid primer when you run out of your favorite pricey eyelid primer (mine is Primer Potion!) or you feel to lazy to pull your primer out of the drawer.

5) Use anti-chafe gel as face primer in the event that you do not pack your beloved Porefessional primer in your suitcase, but have somehow remembered anti-chafe gel haha. Priorities people, priorities.

6) Use a clean toothbrush to exfoliate lips when you feel your lips resemble the Mohjave desert. I am an exfoliating junkie. I use a nice clean toothbrush (not the one I use on my teeth, you weirdos) and scrub off the dead skin with vaseline.

7) Set lipstick with translucent powder to give your lipstick extra staying powder. Tap it on top of your lipstick and blot blot blot! This step can also be used to transform any lipstick to a matte formula.

8) Use lipstick as a cream blush when you leave the house looking like Casper’s long lost cousin. Give cheeks a little pop by dotting them with your favorite coral or pink lippy.

9) Grab a toilet seat cover and blot your face to avoid looking like an oil slick. I have especially oily skin, so I try to keep oil blotters on me at all times. In the times that I forget my trusty little blotters, I utilize the crap out of those toilet seat covers. Did you see what I just did there? Haha, pun intended.

10) Use a white pencil or base to make eyeshadows really pop out. This especially important if you have a deeper skin tone. It makes a world of a difference to apply a white base before you apply that hot pink shadow. Just do it, trust me.

I hope these helped you all out. Let me know about your favorite beauty hack! I’d love to learn some new ones!

Wet N Wild Swatches

Wet N’ Wild Spring Lippies

Hey divas!

I hope that all of you are having a lovely spring.

Spring is arguably my favorite season for new makeup trends. I cannot get enough of the airy pastels and vivid brights! While I love all of the new M.A.C. and Too Faced spring collections, my wallet hates them. My budget is tight, so I have to be very mindful of all of my cosmetic purchases. With that being said, I have been on the hunt for more budget-friendly options. I scoured the internet for HG’s (holy grails) of the drugstore variety. I found that many gurus were raving about a brand that I had worshipped as a mini-makeup maven: Wet N’ Wild! I had sworn off the brand for years, due to my bad experiences in my youth. Apparently the brand has been revamped and the formulas have been changed. I have to say, they did a good job. They got a girl feelin’ some type a way!

Here are the shades that I bought:

Wet N Wild Swatches

Left to Right: Purty Persimmon, Don’t Blink Pink, Dollhouse Pink, Cherry Bomb

My favorites are Purty Persimmon and Cherry Bomb. I have had Cherry Bomb since December, but I wear her frequently, and I love dark colors for Spring. The other two make my teeth look a tad yellow, so I think it may be time to hit that whitening lightening pen, ya feel me? Beyond that, these lip colors are a great value, only $1.99!

PROS

-VERY pigmented

-Inexpensive

-Easy to find in stores (I did not have to special order them, just found them at ye olde Walgreens)

-Fun colors

CONS:

-Can be drying (it is a MUST to condition and exfoliate lips prior to application)

-Messy (I usually apply them with a lip brush, to keep the color clean and even)

-Ugly.Ass.Packaging #nuffsaid

Wet N Wild Lipsticks

In their natural habitat

Overall, these lipsticks are like Pokemon: you gotta catch em’ all! Haha, yes I just went there. Step outside of your comfort zone, and try a fun new bright color!

TGIF!

Thanks for reading,

Gettin’ Wiggy Wit’ It

I have a little secret. Most people don’t understand it… but I have to tell someone! It is a bit taboo and hush hush, but I don’t care who knows. I LOVE WIGS!

Wigs Are Fun

Looks real doesn’t it!?

Pick your jaw off the ground, and let me explain my newfound love for all things wig related. It all started while I was watching YouTube. I stumbled across a channel devoted to wigs. I don’t remember who’s channel it was. It may have been PhillyJamzPoet or PrettyPCollins. It also may have been MalibuDollFace. I was instantly enthralled by the amazing way in which they could instantly change up their styles and WERK the hell outta their wigs.

After watching about 25 videos from all different channels, I knew I HAD to have one. Like 80% of my beauty/hair/makeup products, I did some extensive research in order to find the best one that would fit my budget and style requirements. I decided upon the Las Mogan by Vanessa in a #2 and a Zenn by Outre in DR613. I believe they were $19.95 and $24.95. I ordered them from HairSisters.com due to the fact that they have free shipping with orders of $35 or more. I’m a sucker for dat free shipping biz. Here are the links!

Las Mogan

Zenn

When they arrived, I was super nervous. How could I betray my own curly locks by wearing synthetic hair? Did this mean that I am a fake person? Will everyone be able to tell that it is a wig? What if it makes all my hair fall out? All of my fears were silenced once I took Las Mogan out of the package.

She just screamed DDDIIIVVAAAA to me! Full and bouncy, saturated with thick luscious curls, I couldn’t stop petting her. She didn’t feel like synthetic hair. I knew we would be instant friends. I renamed her Diana, because she reminded me of Miss Ross, with all that Divatude.

My Wiggie

My darling diva. I had to pose… she made me do it!

As for the Zenn unit, I am still on the fence. She is PLATINUM blonde. Less Beyonce, more Gwen Stefani. Which is cool, if that’s your style. I am still easing into the world of wigs, but Zenn was still a bit out of my comfort zone. I also apparently have a giant melon head, so the wig was real tight. I will have to play around with her a little more, in order to give a better review.

Zenn

But let’s get back to the star of this show, Ms. Diana/Las Mogan. I put a brown stocking cap on top of some sloppy braids that I made, and attached the combs to the cap. The result was insta-fab. It gave me a BIG dose of volume and sassiness. I left out 2 braids in the front and blended it with my hair. I have to say that it looked virtually undetectable. Lookin’ like it grew out of head and ish. The only issue was that she is 28″ long. Good lawd. I trimmed about 4-5 inches off, and she still looked mermaid-esque.

Alvin Ailey

WIth my sister at Alvin Ailey. Rockin’ the unit.

I decided to take her out for a test run, so I wore her to happy hour with a friend who sometimes divulges in the wig variety. We went through the whole meal without her mentioning my hair. I asked her if she liked my hair today, and she was like “Yeah, girl. Looks so soft!” Then I broke the news that she was a wig. She thought I was lying. Sooooo,  I guess it looked pretty damn realistic. My BF even thought it was real! I have gotten many compliments from strangers and friends alike, so I will continue to wear her until she gets ratty.

I have since taken Las Mogan out and about around 4 times, and I still love the instant feeling of glam that she adds. I get bored really easily, and I just need to change up my styles to feel cute. I plan to expand my wig repertoire and add some new units to the family. I am eternally curious and willing to try new hair styles, so wigs seem to be my new obsession. They are great for the natural fam as well.

Positives:

-Great protective style

-Change up look in 5-10 minutes

-Helps you avoid coloring or damaging your own hair

-Add a touch of fabulousness

Negatives:

-Can shed. A lot

-Synthetic hair gets ratty with frequent use

-Can look shiny/unrealistic

(Las Mogan does not shed very much, and is not too shiny. It matches my hair luster. Zenn sheds a lot and has a bit of shine that can be brushed out or use baby powder to remove.)

My Natural Hair

My natural Hair. No relaxer, no extensions/wigs.

In a closing thought, I want to mention that I have fairly healthy hair that looks nice on its own. I like wigs because they give me time to be lazy, and try different trendy styles. I do not think anyone should judge those who wear wigs/extensions/weave. If you buy the hair, its YOUR hair! If you grow the hair, it is YOUR hair as well. As long as it looks good and you are wearing the shizz outta it, then who cares? I challenge YOU to try something new and step out of your comfort zone.

Till next time my divas!

xoxo
